Appalachian Trail Experience 2006: Just Gene

My AT adventure began on 4/4/06 at Springer Mtn was completed on 8/6/06 at Mt Katahdin. I averaged 18mi/day with an average pack weight of 40lbs. I resupplied every 2 weeks via mail drops and spent lots more money on food along the trail. I took a total of 8 days off spending 6 of them with my wife. I'm looking forward to doing it again...a bit more slowly the next time...:)

Thursday, April 20, 2006: Cosby Knob Shelter to Standing Bear Farm...10.4mi

Got up early with "Slim" and we headed to the comfort of a hostel in the gap below... "Slim" and I along with "Gringo", "Trixter" and "What"( they just got married and are apparently honeymooning on the trail) have been hiking for a few days off and on now... But we lost "Gringo" last night, guess he held up at the last shelter...the weather being bad and all... Im off first and arrive at standing bear around 1230. It was good to get in early because it started to rain hard mid afternoon with severe T-storms around...
Pictures:
1. One of the really slow ones going north...LOL...these little guys are all over the trail...
